today marks the end of my third week of college. i've officially been to a total of (roughly...) 11.5 hours of class.... which doesn't sound like a lot but trust me it feels like so much more. with the homework and the extra time searching for my classrooms on my days off to make sure i'm not lost the next day, to all the humiliating experiences i've had that seemed to have dragged on.... it's felt like much longer than 11.5 hours. so, since i'm so experienced, and since i haven't really posted much about it, i decided to post some rules of college that i think everyone should know. now, these are just from personal experience... and given the fact that i'm.... me, your experience might be much different. so, do what you will with my advice and good luck with you college experience... whenever that may be.
so here are....
my first piece of advice: do not over dress. especially on the first day of school. because LEMME TELL YOU SOMETHING. this is not high school and no one (i repeat no one), buys new school clothes or even backpacks. and if they do, they sure are good at hiding it. because if you show up to class in your new outfit and you're just feeling so good about yourself and you see everyone else literally wore their pajamas, you're going to look like an idiot. sojustdon't.
second: do not show up to class 20 minutes early. because this is going to be a typical 5th grade PE moment all over again. everyone's going to choose their tables and you're going to be that loner in the back with no one to sit with and then the teachers going to say "why don't you come join a group that has more kids so you're not sitting alone?". hey thanks for making me feel like an idiot teach.! 'precciate it, really. show up at a decent time and sit at a table where there's already people.
third: when it comes to sharing something "interesting" about you, say something that doesn't make you sound like a total dork-a-sorous. luckily i figured this one out soon enough, but in high school i decided to out myself and tell everyone about my justin biebs fetish. yaaaa, don't.
fourth: it's alright to be the class pet. wait did i just say that? haha i mean the teachers pet. that was too funny not to erase. don't be the class pet that's weird. anyways.....i highly encourage it (without being over the top, of course. just be a good student.). at the end of my emails i usually add something along the lines of "have a good weekend! can't wait for your class monday!". teachers eat it up. seriously. the next time they see me they always ask my how my weekend was and we engage in good conversation.
fifth: don't be the kid in class THAT STILL COPIES OTHER PEOPLES PAPERS. seriously? i thought this was college, not high school?? if you can't handle the homework, don't take the class.
sixth: staring at cute boys in class is not appropriate... especially if you have a tendency to turn red faced really fast. (the stories with this one.. i can't even begin.) & especially if they catch you doing it. so learn to be sneaky or keep your eyes to yourself.
and last: if you're going to eat/drink in class..... shut the heck up because no one wants to hear it.
basically that's it. i haven't had much to go off of or many stories i can tell, but i can assure you i will. i've still got a lot of time. so keep waiting and reading. embarrassing/interesting/good stories will be coming, i can pretty much promise that.
